Pet Responsibilities - More Than Feeding and Cleaning Up After

Rabies Vaccinations  :

Once a dog or cat reaches four months old, they must be vaccinated for rabies. A booster vaccination is required twelve months after the date of the initial vaccination. After the booster, the pet must be put on a vaccination schedule according to the labeled duration of the vaccine used. The vaccine must be administered by a licensed veterinarian who will issue a tag and a certificate. The tag must then be attached to the collar or harness of the pet. Tags are not transferable.

If special circumstances arise, the Health Officer and the Animal Control Authority may adopt other rabies control regulations as they deem necessary for the protection of public health and safety.

Licenses  :

All dogs and cats residing in the city must be licensed by the time they reach the age of four months. This license must be renewed annually if you do not purchase a lifetime license. Applications for a license must be made to the licensing authority (see #4) and shall state the name, address, and telephone number of the owner(s), and the name, breed, color, age, and sex of the pet. Proof of current rabies vaccination and payment of applicable license fees must be provided to receive a license. The cost for such licenses are

1. $20 per sterilized dog or cat (Lifetime), $40 per unsterilized dog or cat (Lifetime), $7 per sterilized dog or car (annually), $20 per unsterilized dog or cat (annually), or $1 per sterilized dog or cat owned by any disabled person or anyone 62 years of age or older (annually) 

2. Fees are waived for registered service dogs and government owned dogs used for law enforcement.

3. Application for a license must be made within thirty days after obtaining a dog or cat four months of age or within thirty days of establishing residence in the city. This requirement will not apply to a nonresident keeping a dog or cat within the city for no longer than sixty days.

4. The licensing authority shall include licensed veterinarians who are empowered to collect the license fee and issue a dog or cat license and a durable metal tag. Dog and cat license receipts shall  be collected from such vets by Animal Control on at least a quarterly basis.

5. The licensed veterinarian administering rabies vaccinations, issuing license tags and collecting annual license tag fees shall assist the dog or cat owner in the preparation of the dog or cat license application and shall advise the owner of their obligation to renew their license annually.

6. Any licensed veterinarian may, in addition to the annual license fee, impose a handling charge of up to two dollars for the collection of the annual license fee.

7. Tags must be attached to the collar or harness of the dog or cat and be worn at all times. Tags are not transferable from one pet to another.
