How can I find out if there is a job opening with the city?

Openings are posted on the City website and on the Job Board located in Benton Municipal Complex hallway, as well as advertised in the local newspaper.

Can I apply online?

Yes.  Complete the application form and submit.  Your application will be channeled to the department that has a vacancy.

Can I apply for a position if there is not a job opening listed?

Applications are only taken for open or vacant positions listed.

Will applications be mailed if requested?

Yes.  Just call or send an email.  Paper applications are also available at Benton Municipal Complex.

Are applications and/or resumes kept on file in your office for subsequent job postings?

No.  Each application should be for a specific open or vacant position.

When should I apply for a public safety (fire or police) position?

These departments fall under jurisdiction of a Civil Service Commission which has established a testing procedure including written exam, physical agility testing, and preliminary interview.  The established written test date is the first Monday in April each year.  Applications for employment are received in March.  The quantitative score from the exam and interview is used to certify an eligibility list for the year.  Openings are filled from the certified eligibility list.  Should the list be exhausted, an October testing is allowed.  Watch the website for testing dates.
