GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Laborer (Street) assists with the repair and maintenance of City streets and right of ways.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Patches potholes with asphalt;
  • Cleans catch basins, curbs and gutters;
  • Trims bushes, weeds and trees at intersections and from right of ways;
  • Sets up signage and markers for street repair or closings;
  • Aids in traffic control during street repairs;
  • Loosens materials for removal from areas being repaired;
  • Loads salt to spreader on truck as needed;
  • Transports and secures materials used to support walls of ditches;
  • Constructs forms for pouring concrete;
  • Shovels gravel and other fill or surfacing materials from truck to areas being repaired;
  • Repairs street signs and poles;
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • Seven (7) plus months of related work experience;
  • Heavy equipment operation experience preferred;
  • Flagger Certification preferred;
  • Trenching and Excavations Safety Technician Certification preferred;
  • IMSA Work Zone Traffic Control Certification preferred;
  • Current Drivers’ license.
